Understanding ODS Linked Data Objects

This guide uses an example profile to help you quickly understand key aspects of the Linked Data automatically generated by ODS and its application-specific Linked Data Spaces.

This understanding unveils how ODS provides a productive solution for creating, exploiting, and deploying Linked Data based on application interactions, whether orchestrated directly by end-users or indirectly via RESTful service interfaces.

Getting Linked Data related to an ODS Object

1. Create an ODS account using a variety of options, such as our public WebID Demo instance.
2. Update your profile, and you can view links about yourself, similar to these examples --
   • An entity of interest for which you can substitute your own new ODS-based WebID. Here we start with Kingsley Idehen's ODS-based WebID -- http://id.myopenlink.net/dataspace/person/KingsleyUyiIdehen.
   • The basic Virtuoso Entity Description Page, produced through the Virtuoso Sponger -- http://id.myopenlink.net/about/html/http://id.myopenlink.net/dataspace/person/KingsleyUyiIdehen. You can see a similar page about yourself by changing the latter part of the URI from Kingsley's ODS-based WebID to your own -- http://id.myopenlink.net/about/html/<put-WebID-here>.
   • An Entity Description Page allowing Faceted Exploration -- http://id.myopenlink.net/describe/?url=http://id.myopenlink.net/dataspace/person/KingsleyUyiIdehen. Again, you can see a similar page about yourself by changing the URL value from Kingsley's ODS-based WebID to your own -- http://id.myopenlink.net/describe/?url=<put-WebID-here>.
3. Advanced users of Linked Data technology can also pass ODS Object URIs through HTTP trace and debugging tools as demonstrated here:
   • The URI Debugger lets you request and view Raw Entity Description Data in different formats, specified by MIME type. To see your own data, submit your ODS-based WebID through their form.
